Helping to guide you

down the path to technology commercialization
TREAT’s Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP) is focused on facilitating technical translation of rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology research. Innovators, with a targeted injection of services and capital, can accelerate their process of technology translation. The support offered by TREAT through the CAP is a combination of education, product development support, and seed funding to launch innovators towards their commercialization goals.

TECHNOLOGY & MARKET ASSESSMENT

Education, mentorship and services to help innovators assess their product concepts. This Core combines technical and commercial feasibility, clinical relevance, intellectual property, technology transfer, market evaluation, cost estimation, and financing opportunities.

COMPARATIVE EFFECTIVENESS & CLINICAL RESEARCH

Education, services, and training to help innovators develop relevant and practical clinical trials that support the validation and translation of ideas to clinical practice. Expertise provided by this Core can dramatically reduce overall project costs through careful assessment and planning.

TECHNOLOGY PROTOTYPING & DEVELOPMENT

Resources and expertise to design, build, and test technology concepts. Core expertise covers a wide range of technology development, including: rapid prototyping, electromechanical system design, materials research and testing, software development, modeling and simulation, and data analysis.

Educational Opportunities

TREAT Educational Resources provide an opportunity for rehabilitation technology innovators to learn about the process of product ideation, evaluation, and execution. Upon submission of a technology concept, an individualized experiential learning curriculum is created to augment an innovators background and expertise. Components of this curriculum include: Technology and Market Assessment (TMA), on-line lecture series that teaches beginning and advanced entrepreneurial concepts, and direct access to expert consultation in all aspects of device commercialization.

Pilot Project Grants

Pilot Project Grant Program offers both pilot funding and in-kind service awards to help accelerate commercialization of rehabilitation and assistive technologies. These rehabilitation translation projects are selected through competitive review and are supported by mentorship from the TREAT for technology assessment, technology development, and clinical trials development.

Entrepreneur Fellowship

The TREAT Entrepreneur Fellowship Program is a 6 month, immersive cooperative educational and professional opportunity for individuals seeking experience in technology translation and commercialization.

Innovation Sabbatical

TREAT Innovation Sabbatical opportunities (3-12 months) are available for visiting rehabilitation researchers and innovators to dedicate their full attention towards commercializing their technology concept. Visiting scholars are encouraged (and expected) to take advantage of the wide variety of on-site expertise and resources during this period of time and share their experiences once returning to their home institutions.

Testimonials

I would highly recommend TREAT to other technology innovators. TREAT is a wonderful program dedicated to help individuals or teams create a product ready for the market. They give their full commitment when working with your team and truly want you to succeed.- Roxanne Chandler, Doodle Bug Team Member
We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from Simbex through the TREAT program and we would highly recommend that others with novel rehabilitative technologies consider this valuable program. We have very high regard for each of the team members that have helped us, and we are continuing to develop our product, thanks to the support we received.- Mark Roser, Founder, Results Group LLC / Open Innovators
The program at TREAT guided us through the steps we needed to take to get from idea to product, how to research our market, and what technologies we should consider. Working with the engineers was an incredible experience, and the continuing support has just been amazing.- Jane Hankins, M.S., Doodle Bug
It is a unique opportunity to develop one’s ideas in a rich intellectual and technological environment, with complete confidentiality and support.- Bill Craelius, Dynawheel
The Simbex TREAT Program allowed me the resources necessary to bring my prototype to the next level.- Patricia, Andres, DPT, MS, ATLIS
Meeting the team at TREAT was a lifesaver. The medical device industry requires rigorous standards and safety testing from reputable independent laboratories to consider a product. The testing data and reports from the Thayer School of Engineering exceeded those requirements and opened many doors. I am now in formal talks with one of the largest players in the healthcare field.- Marshall Basham, Auckland Mobility Devices
